Fly to Naples then take a ferry to Capri... |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Getting to Capri is quite straight-forward. Fly to Naples and catch a ferry or hydrofoil from either Naples or nearby Sorrento or Positano, which are both on the Amalfi Coast. The crossing is fast and smooth. Once on Capri, there are three choices for transport up to the small towns, depending on your mood: Taxi, Funicular or Bus. Unless you have a strong stomach, not too much luggage and a sense of adventure - take a taxi. The Funicular Railway will take you up to Capri's Piazzetta, the many Buses head to Capri or Anacapri, and the Taxi rank is immediately in front of you as you exit the Ferry dock (open-top white 'Cabrios'). Winding roads and breathtaking elevation awaits. Note: many of the hotels and B&Bs have a complementary pick-up service for their guests upon arrival at the Marina. Expected travel times: UK to Naples: 2 hours + usual airport transit times Naples Airport to Ferry Dock - 30 mins (20 €) Ferry crossing: 45 mins (16 € per person) From the UK to Naples EasyJet flies this route from Gatwick and Stanstead: Suggest leaving on Friday 03 and joining us for drinks by the sea : )
Naples Airport to Harbour An easy way to get from Naples airport to the harbour is to take a taxi, but make sure you ask for the flat rate, which is about €16, plus tip. Another easy way is to use the ALIBUS. As you exit the airport terminal, there is an outdoor café on the left, taxi rank on the right, and directly opposite, several bus stops. The ALIBUS stop sign is on the right. Buses leave on the hour and half hour (€3 one way, tickets bought from the driver). The bus stops twice, first at the central station (Centrale) and then at the top of Piazza Municipio, next to the Castello Nuovo. This is where you get off. Ferries to and from Capri You can reach Capri by ferry or hydrofoil from either Naples or Sorrento. There are three harbours in Naples: Calata Porta di Massa (ferries only) Molo Beverello and Mergellina (ferries and hydrofoils). It's much more convenient to leave from Molo Beverello because of the greater frequency of departures and larger selection of hydrofoils. From Naples, the ferry takes about 80 minutes (Euro 9,00). The hydrofoil takes about 40 minutes (Euro 16,00). From Sorrento, the ferry takes about 40 minutes (Euro 9,00) while the hydrofoil takes about 20 minutes (Euro 12,00). For large baggage items, there is a small fee for each item. The baggage fee is paid at the time of ticket purchase, and you will be given a special ticket for each bag. The link below provides contact details for the various ferry companies. It also provides an indicative schedule of departures and arrivals. However, the schedule may change so check the website a few days before arriving. |
